Break on through to the other side...
My flight to Albuquerque was really good - but I was almost arrested in the airport! You have to pass through a large revolving door to get from the secure / gate side to the side where your family and friends are waiting to greet you. Well, I saw Lyn through the glass and thought I'd be really cute and get the revolving door going really fast and do a few rotations before shooting out to greet her. So I DID get it going really fast, but about the time I am headed into rotation #2 - SLAM! The door comes to a stop and I BAM! into the glass.
I think this is hilarious so I am laughing my head off when the cops stop me and tell me if I'd made it back through to the secure side, even though I'd just come from there, the whole airport woulda shut down, planes would not be allowed to take off or land, and basically that Armageddon would commence. He very seriously told me I could be arrested for even the attempt. I apologized a zillion times and he let me go. Whooopth! Thorry offither!!!!
Lyn and I went to the coolest Brazilian resto for dinner - I think it was called Pasada? The center of the place featured a huge buffet-style bar of olives, cheeses, fresh vegetables, pestos - etc. You help yourself to all you want of that while the staff walk around with various cuts of chicken, beef, pork tenderloin, sausages, etc - and they cut you off a small portion of whatever you want. It's all you care to eat - so they give you a red and green indicator for your table - green means 'keep bringing meat', red means, 'no thanks, we are on break - or done'. It was kinda pricey - $29 per person for dinner plus wine - but such a cool concept and terrific food.

Bike Ride to the National Mall
Aj and I drove to Old Alexandria on Saturday and rode our bikes from there to the National Mall and back. The weather was gorgeous - so the trail was loaded with people, which made for a lot of 'on your lefts'. There were sailboats, water skiers, kayakers, airplanes, choppers - not to mention the skyline and architecture - lots to absorb.
[I really want to go back down some time for the day. Maybe pack some wine and cheese and a light blanket...lie in the grass and watch the planes take off and land for a few hours. Watch the rainbow of people passing by.]
I had not been on my bike in a couple of years and it felt great - although, as with rollerblading, I lose my confidence when going down hills. I love the speed but am never convinced of my ability to maintain control. A helmet probably would have helped my confidence some. I should not have left mine in the car! We rode about 17 miles roundtrip, then stowed our bikes and walked into Old Alexandria for dinner. We sat outside at The Fish Market and people watched.
There were street performers and tons of people w/ their pet dogs - but the coolest thing was this guy with his cat! The cat sat on his lap the whole time. He must have been bringing her out in the crowds since she was weened. The guy was getting TONS of attention - that cat was the best chick-magnet I've ever seen. Click on the image to enlarge.

One Track Mind
Conversation with Aj last night:
What time do you tee off tomorrow?
I'm taking the weekend off from golf.
Really?!
Yep.
Well, what are we going to do?
You mean tomorrow night?
No - I mean tomorrow day.
I dunno.
Well - we should go hiking or biking or something!
The Cardinal's won tonight.

I don't mind when conversation does not flow perfectly - but that's ridiculous.

Holy Shit!
My boss and I were meeting in his office today (he has a nice picture-window) and I kid you not the Stealth Bomber flew right toward us and over our heads. It was sweet! It was like seeing a shooting star with someone - so rare. We both ran to the window and stared. Ben said, "how come we can see it?". Bahahahahaha!
There were fighter jets flying around all morning too. It was a little more difficult to concentrate than ususal!
Check out these pics from the air show on base - right after arrival in DC. I took these from the back yard. Not great photographs - just freaking cool!

Less than a week, my friend!
Until I see you!
Lyn - can you believe this was taken only 9 months ago? January 15 - 2006. The day we went to Luckenbach, Texas!!
That seems like eons ago. Remember when that Amarillo tried to jump in front of may car on the way home? We were in the sticks, baby. Good times.
Friday Night Funk
Mood: I dunno. I think I'm pissed.
Listening To: Aj yell at the TV (baseball, hockey games)
It's Friday night. Had a cocktail and took a nap w/ Aj after work. Actually, he slept and I laid there listening to music, daydreaming. Got up - he ran for fast food. We ate on separate floors. Now - I am upstairs drinking wine - surfing the net. He's downstairs watching hockey and baseball and "coaching" his teams on the TV. He's already hinted at golfing tomorrow. I am fine with that -but I wanna go hiking, or biking or freaking DO something!
There's supposed to be a decent Rollerblading trail between DC and Annapolis. Maybe I will do that. Maybe I will just take my book and some cheese and wine to the park and have a picnic for one. I am going to go f'n crazy if I don't get outside for a while!

FriSatSunMon
Columbus Day Weekend Happenings:
Fri: Got cut early from work and went to a quick, much-needed happy-hour celebration. Cooked dinner for in-laws, arriving for the weekend. Roasted red pepper & asparagus, smashed potatoes, filet mignon, red wine.
Sat: Baked scones and cut fresh fruit for breakfast. Ran 5K. Headed to Baltimore for the day w/ Aj and the in-laws. Lunch on the water and then back home for gourmet cheeses, meats, nuts, fruits and wine. Too much wine for me!
Sun: Apologized for apparently passing out Saturday night. Made breakfast for all (omelets, fresh melon and berries, scones) and hung out with mother-in-law to be for the day while the guys went golfing. Got THE coolest bracelet and two extremely soft sweaters while shopping at the BX. Lunch was Ruby Tuesday's salad bar with Cindi. Dinner at the Wayfarer at Colony South for the four of us. Cream of Crab soup was pretty damned amazing. Crashed out early.
Mon: Made breakfast paninis and cut fresh melon. Ran 5K. In-laws left and Aj hit the golf course. I went to Waldorf and traded in my camera (which they'd not managed to repair) and purchased Quicken Premium, Norton Internet Suite, the new Killers CD (SUCKS) and the new Evanesence CD for Aj. Came home, talked to Lyn, surfed Internet and made dinner (Tacos for Aj, taco salad pour moi.)
I don't think I could possibly handle one teeny ounce more of excitement. :/
